Neither interesting nor inspirational by orangekay
While I can’t find too much fault with any of the information written in this book, many of the examples are rather poor. Why the Nick Jr. family of logos should be in the same book as some lame Cal Arts poster is beyond me; probably just simple nepotism.

It’s fun to flip through, but you aren’t likely to learn much unless you have no design experience whatsoever, and there really aren’t even any “wow, that’s really cool looking” moments, either. The only use I can think of for it is educating clients who think logos are things you obtain through contests and craigslist ads.

Take “workbook” out of the title. Call it “The Design of Famous Logos” by Lisa Jackson
I don’t know why the author decieves us wih the word “Workbook.” It should be called “about the design of famous logos”

The first 51 pages (of 230) are great. I like the colorful charts and stuff about logo design in the first 51 pages.

The rest is interesting to look at and read, but not what I need and not essential (230 pages long). I am still looking for a book about the logo design PROCESS. It is well designed and has some really great stuff, but still not everything I needed.

ANY AUTHORS OUT THERE? WRITE IT! I need a book which uses about 5 individual designers, their clients, and quotes from both about the process. I want pencil-sketchy looking beginnings. I want stuff about failures as well as successes. I want nitty gritty detail. If you can even include pictures of the designers and clients working together, photos of designers holding up logo proposals in front of a client, that would be great. I know what logos look like. I see them all the time. I do not want to see another book like this that just shows me a bunch of logos!

inspiring & interesting book by I. Kamp
A great and interesting book to read if you want to design logo’s (or just your own, like I did).

The layout is great and makes you enthousiastic to start designing.

The reason that it is not five stars is that I missed some great examples (could be that I’ve different reference materials because I live in Europe).

Though it was an inspiring and usefull book; I’d buy it again.

BUY THIS BOOK by Jessica C. Simpson
This book is very informational and is great for looking at. it has a very nice layout style and has been helpful with suggestions on logo design. A great book for all designers- from beginners to advanced.

Getting ready to test the steps of this book… by Lori Otto
Another great book from AdamsMorioka. Graphic design geniuses. :) This book is superb– it tells you what concerns need to be addressed before the design process begins, which was the most helpful part of the book. But the eye candy– the logos– were the most fun. I went through it all in a day, but can’t wait to study it more intently. This will be a great reference and inspiration to me in my work.

Be careful of some of the “ads”. by Jeff
There are some drug related and “adult” type product ads in this book. You may want to keep it away from the kids!

Too recent to be truly memorable. by Robin Benson
All-American Ads of the Seventies adds another 702 pages to the 3418 pages in the first four books and only the Ads of the Twenties remains to be published. This latest book is really the weakest of the set though. As editor Jim Heimann explains in his intro, the Seventies print media lacked creative sparkle because television had captured most ad dollars. He also mentions the important point that in the Sixties ad art directors copied a lot of the really great creative stuff shown in the editorial pages of magazines and into the Seventies so much of this input had become everyday. Although he doesn’t mention it I think another reason so many of these ads look bland is because they are just not old enough, they have not quite gained a nostalgic or curiosity value.

Still there are some fascinating pages to enjoy, I liked the chapter on Consumer Products with ads for Sony Betamax, Electrophonic turntables, Advent VideoBeam television, Pioneer tape decks, Polaroid Sonar camera, Honeywell slide projector and an IBM Electronic 75 typewriter. All gone to that electronic dustbin in the sky. I thought the classiest ads were in the Business & Industry chapter, some really creative photography and design.

If you lived through the decade you’ll find some memory joggers here. As with the four previous books the production is excellent, all the ads have been carefully copied from the originals and no screen clash.
